Browsing by Time Range

The History tab offers two views, selected next to the title: People and Scenes.

View	Contents
People	Groups the people recorded in the selected range into cards. This is the view shown when the tab is opened. See The People View.
Scenes	Lists recordings in the order they were detected. Described below.

Choosing a range

The range currently being viewed is shown above the list. Clicking it opens the picker, and the arrows on either side (Previous range, Next range) move to the adjacent range of the same length.

Under Quick ranges, choose Today, Yesterday, Last hour, Last 6 hours, Last 24 hours, or Last 7 days.
In the calendar, click the start day and then the end day. To view a single day, click the same day twice.
Adjust the hours under From and To, in one-hour steps.
Click Apply.

Clicking a recording enlarges the photo and plays the video for that span.
Long recordings are split across multiple files. Playback continues across them automatically.
While the list is scrolled away from the top, newly arriving recordings do not push it around. A n new scenes button appears instead; click it to bring them in.
On a long list, a vertical bar appears along the right edge. Drag it to jump to that position; the time at that point is shown while dragging. Once well down the list, Back to top appears at the bottom right.

Playing a recording

Clicking a recording opens the player. The bar at the bottom controls playback, and the tick marks along it are the points where a person was indexed in that video.

The Indexed marker Recordings with a person detected are indexed automatically in the background after saving, and carry an Indexed marker once indexing completes. Face, appearance, description, and attribute search cover only marked recordings. Unmarked recordings can still be opened and played, but do not appear in search results.

Four Search Methods

Working with results

Results are grouped one tile per video, and the banner above shows how many were found as n clips. Clicking a tile plays that video from the matching moment.

When there are too many results, type a condition into Narrow these results and press Enter, for example red jacket. Only the current results are filtered. Reset returns to the unnarrowed list.
Remove an incorrect match with Not this person. Removed items collapse into Removed: n below the results, where Undo restores them.

Note Match strictness is not adjusted per search. How strictly two captures count as the same person is set in one place, Settings > Indexing > Person separation, and that value applies to both card grouping and search. See Indexing.

Note For attribute search, keeping Include similar colors on is recommended. Clothing color can be recorded as a neighboring color depending on lighting, so selecting blue also covers cyan, purple, gray, and black.

The Also options and the three-state buttons

The buttons under Also cycle through states with each click. Unselected means not considered, one click means yes, a second click means no, and a third returns to the start. Each button displays its current state, e.g. "Hat", "Hat yes", "Hat no".

Because the no state exists, conditions such as "a person not wearing a hat" or "a person not carrying anything" can be constructed. This is effective for narrowing candidates in busy locations.

The groups below are for clarity; on screen, all choices run in a single row.

Caution Search covers only recordings indexed at save time. Results are empty when the recording was saved before face recognition was enabled (face search only), when the storage period has already deleted it, or when nothing stored matches.

The People View

History > People automatically groups the people recorded in the selected range into cards, allowing browsing without a search query. It is the view shown first when the History tab is opened.

The grouping criterion is selected at the top left of the list: Appearance or Faces. In environments where faces are captured small, such as ceiling cameras, Appearance groups more reliably. Appearance works without face recognition enabled; when face recognition is off, this selector is not shown at all.

Tapping a card finds that person's other records. No name assignment or face registration is needed.
Appearance groups by clothing worn. The same person in different clothes becomes a separate card, and similarly dressed people may be grouped together.
Sort on the right offers Newest first and Oldest first. Newest first is the default.
If something that is not a person becomes a card, use Hide at the card's top right to take it off the list. Hidden cards can be reviewed and restored under Hidden items at the top right.
While the list is scrolled away from the top, new cards do not push it around. A n new people button appears instead; click it to bring them in.
With many cards, drag the vertical bar along the right edge to move quickly, and use Back to top at the bottom right to return to the start.

Note The cards are not a fixed roster. Changing the time range regroups everything for that range, so the number of cards and their representative images can change. When the same person splits across cards, or different people mix into one, adjust Settings > Indexing > Person separation (Indexing).
