Browsing by Date

The History tab — Select a date, then select a recording.

Selecting a date shows that day's recordings. Recent dates are labeled Today and Yesterday.
Clicking a recording enlarges the photo and plays the video for that span.
Long recordings are split across multiple files. Playback continues across them automatically.

The Indexed marker Recordings with a person detected are indexed automatically in the background after saving, and carry an Indexed marker once indexing completes. Face, appearance, description, and attribute search cover only marked recordings. Unmarked recordings can still be opened and played, but do not appear in search results.

Four Search Methods

Face and appearance searches offer five levels of Match confidence. From loosest to strictest: Loosest · Loose · Medium · Strict · Strictest. The default is Medium.

Starting at Medium is recommended. Move one step stricter when unrelated people appear in the results, and one step looser when a person known to be present is not found. The two outermost levels are for cases where that is not enough: use Strictest when results are very noisy, and Loosest when nothing is returned.

Results can be refined while browsing. Not this person removes an incorrect match, and clicking the removed count restores them.

Note For attribute search, keeping Include similar colors on is recommended. Clothing color can be recorded as a neighboring color depending on lighting, so selecting blue also covers cyan, purple, gray, and black.

The Also options and the three-state buttons

The buttons under Also cycle through states with each click. Unselected means not considered, one click means yes, a second click means no, and a third returns to the start. Each button displays its current state, e.g. "Hat", "Hat yes", "Hat no".

Because the no state exists, conditions such as "a person not wearing a hat" or "a person not carrying anything" can be constructed. This is effective for narrowing candidates in busy locations.

The groups below are for clarity; on screen, all choices run in a single row.

Caution Search covers only recordings indexed at save time. Results are empty when the recording was saved before face recognition was enabled (face search only), when the storage period has already deleted it, or when nothing stored matches.

The People Tab

History > People automatically groups the people who have been recorded, allowing browsing without a search query.

The grouping criterion is selected above the list: Faces or Appearance. In environments where faces are captured small, such as ceiling cameras, Appearance groups more reliably. Appearance works without face recognition enabled; when face recognition is off, Appearance is the only option.

If one person appears as multiple cards, use Merge to combine them.
A name assigned to a card is a display label for browsing and is separate from face registration. Alerts do not use it.
Appearance groups by clothing worn. The same person in different clothes becomes a separate card, and similarly dressed people may be grouped together.

Caution Merging cannot be undone. Two different people merged together cannot be separated again, so verify before merging. When two cards appear to be the same person, Spot asks at the top of the list. If you are unsure, select Not sure and decide later.
