Finding a Camera’s RTSP Address

To add a camera over RTSP you need its stream address. The format differs by manufacturer; it is usually the camera’s IP address followed by a path the manufacturer defines.

Try ONVIF first If the camera supports ONVIF, you do not need the address. Choose ONVIF under Camera type and Spot finds cameras on the same network. Use the steps below only if it does not.
  1. Find the camera’s IP address. Use the manufacturer’s search tool in the table below or the device info in the manufacturer’s app. The router’s list of connected devices also shows it.
  2. Check Do first in the table. Home cameras often need RTSP turned on or a separate camera account created in the app. Business cameras usually use the admin account set during installation.
  3. Find the manufacturer’s format in the table and replace CameraIP with the address from step 1.
  4. Enter the finished address in Stream URL and the camera account in Username and Password. Leave the username and password out of the address. Entered separately, a password with special characters such as @ or # still works.

The camera is added when its video appears on the Live tab. For manufacturers not listed, search the camera manual or the manufacturer’s support site for “RTSP”.

Caution Some home cameras do not support RTSP, including most Tapo and Reolink battery cameras, Reolink 4G cameras, and EZVIZ video doorbells. Igloocam, Hejhome, Xiaomi, and Imou do not officially document RTSP use.
If it does not connect
  1. Check that the device and the camera are on the same router (network).
  2. Confirm the username and password by signing in to the camera’s web page or app. Tapo needs the camera account and EZVIZ the verification code.
  3. If you changed the camera’s RTSP port from 554, replace 554 in the address with that number.
  4. On Hikvision and VIGI, if RTSP authentication is set to SHA256 only, switch back to an option that includes MD5. Both manufacturers note that options other than MD5 may not work with third-party software.
  5. If you have VLC media player on a PC, enter the address under Media > Open Network Stream to see whether video plays. In VLC, put the account in the address: rtsp://username:password@CameraIP:554/...
Cameras connected to an NVR

You can also connect through the NVR’s address instead of the camera’s, using the NVR’s IP and a channel number.

  • Hanwha Vision NVR: rtsp://NVR-IP:554/LiveChannel/0/media.smp Channels start at 0.
  • IDIS NVR: rtsp://NVR-IP:554/trackID=3&streamID=2 trackID is the camera number and streamID the stream.
  • Hikvision NVR: in /Streaming/Channels/201, the leading digits are the channel and the last two the stream (01 main, 02 sub).
  • Dahua NVR: the number after channel= is the channel.
  • Reolink NVR and Home Hub: in Preview_02_main, the middle number is the channel.
