Moving Your Data

When you replace a disk or move to another PC, copy the whole storage folder and you can keep using your existing history. The storage folder keeps each place's logs, videos, photos, and registered faces and plates separately. Camera and alert settings are saved with the place, so you do not need to set them up again.

Caution Stop both the old PC and the new PC before copying. Copying into the storage folder of a running PC, or copying from a running PC, can damage the log files or leave out the most recent records.

Finding the storage folder

On the old PC, check Storage folder under Settings > Storage. If the field is empty, the dimmed path shown in it is the default folder.

Steps

  1. In the place on the old PC, click Stop on the Settings tab.Wait until the status changes to Stopped.
  2. Copy the storage folder as a whole to the new disk or PC.Do not copy only the projects folder inside it, or a folder inside that.
  3. If you are moving to a new PC, install Grablo on it and connect it as this place's device (Connecting the Device). If the new PC is running, click Stop.
  4. Under Settings > Storage, choose the copied folder as the Storage folder.
  5. Return to the settings list and click Save at the bottom of the screen. The screen reloads.
  6. Click Start on the Settings tab.
Note Existing videos still play even if the drive letter changes on the new PC (for example, from D to E). If you have several places, choose the same folder as the Storage folder in each place. Records already past the storage period are deleted at the first cleanup after the move.

If you choose the wrong folder

If you choose a folder inside the storage folder, or a folder that contains the storage folder, a hint appears below the field. Click Use this folder in the hint to switch to the correct storage folder. If you start without fixing it, the device does not start; click the error indicator next to the status to see why.

External drives and folders that cannot be used
  • For an external drive, assign it a fixed drive letter in Windows Disk Management so it is recognized at the same path when reconnected. Do not unplug it while recording, and stop the device before unplugging.
  • Network drives (such as a NAS) and drives formatted as FAT32 cannot be chosen as a new storage folder. Use a drive formatted as NTFS (Windows), APFS (Mac), or ext4 (Linux).
  • A folder that already contains other files cannot be used as the storage folder. Choose an empty folder for a new storage folder.
